Take Your Kids to Europe
The Overseas Travel Guide for Thinking Families

We wrote this book for all open-minded families who would like to share an unforgettable experience with their children.

This is not your usual travel guide. It does not list thiry-seven good hotels in Paris, or the best restaurants in Madrid. It will not tell you how to apply for your passport, or the European equivalent of every American shoe size.

What does that leave? Simply everything the average family needs to know to survive – and get the most from – a trip to Europe. Who else will tell you where to find a chocolate factory in Switzerland, or why to avoid the Changing of the Guard at Buckingham Palace? What other books explains the best ways to get your kids interested in art museums or how to deal with late-night dinnertimes in Spain?

We wrote Take Your Kids to Europe with the goal of including all the information we wish we had known before we took our ten- and thirteen-year-old kids to Europe for four months. Then we've augmented our experience with that of more than two dozen other families, whose contributions appear throughout the book.

This book is especially geared to families with school age kids who want to know how to travel in Europe without breaking the bank. Whether you're planning to travel for a week, a month or a year, Take Your Kids to Europe provides valuable information not found in any other book.

About the Author. Cynthia Harriman is the author of five books and scores of newspaper and magazine articles. Her travel writing has appeared in the San Francisco Examiner, the Chicago Sun-Times and the Washington Post. The success of Take Your Kids to Europe – now in its eighth edition – draws on much of her eclectic experience in life, including a college degree in Romance Languages, a few years as a certified elementary-school teacher, a stint as a small-business bookkeeper (combined with a lifetime as a pennypincher), and a decade of writing computer articles and books.

About the Illustrator. Dozens of cartoon line-drawings illustrate Take Your Kids to Europe, thanks to the talents of Bob Nilson. A retired math teacher, Bob now gives generously of his time amusing gravely ill patients at Boston's Children's Hospital, amazing kids and adults alike with his ability to sketch with both hands at the same time. Thank you, Bob, for your contributions to TYKE and for all you do.
